1983 was a big year in the world of Hi-Fi audio. It was this year we first saw the release of the Compact Disc. I still fondly remember watching ‘Tomorrow’s World’ the BBC TV show – where they demonstrated just how indestructible this new technology was… I think they might regret that segment now! Within that same year, a small British back-bedroom company released its first product. Creek Audio’s 4040 is now something of an audiophile “giant-killer” legend. This small compact wooden cased amplifier still has a loyal following even to this day.
In 2018, Hi-Fi News revisited this well-known product and performed a modern-day listing test. Many companies like to brag about their technical prowess and yet, when tested – get shown to have been slightly exaggerating the truth. Paul Miller’s lab test proves Creek’s word has always been consistently accurate.
